SPIRIT OF CRICKET

At the 2013 Annual General Meeting there was a big debate about Clubs packing their lower division teams with higher division players to enable the lower division team to avoid relegation or win the division. The meeting was not in favour of the proposal as worded, but had every sympathy with the spirit of the proposal.

The League Management Committee is well aware that in divisions 1 and 4 that there are only nine teams in each division. In line with 'the spirit of cricket' and the debate at the agm your Management Committee will take a dim view if you take the opportunity to pack your lower division teams when the higher division team has a free weekend.

Equally, towards the end of the season, we will be keeping a lookout for teams that attempt to adopt strange selection policy’s in an attempt to manipulate promotion and relegation issues. We are a friendly village competition that likes to think that all its clubs and players compete within the 'spirit of cricket'. Let us keep it that way.

As most of you are probably aware the coverage in the Essex Chronicle over the past 3 years has been very poor. Two weeks ago they asked for a meeting and said they want to get back to reporting games like they used to. We therefore need captains to give detailed reports on their matches win or lose. The idea is that the top 3 divisions will have a report of about 80 words whilst in the other divisions individuals who have performed well are required. Please make all captains aware of this.

At the meeting last week all clubs were given leaflets regarding the new sportsmanship awards and news of the Rob George foundation. We would be very grateful if you could make everybody aware and put these posters up in your clubhouse.

Have a very good season and if there is anything you are uncertain about before the season starts then please contact a member of the Committee
